They call them wwworkers, they are web workers, engaged in agriculture but also in consultancy services, their success stories have been discussed at a conference at the Chamber of Deputies, organized by the Parliamentary Intergroup for Innovation.
Stefano Caccavari (Founder Mulinum srl): "The agricultural sector produces quality food, but it does not know, and I’m talking about farmers, they cannot convey and communicate the value that is behind it. Today the wholesale stores absorb most of this value. Surely, young people, thanks to a cell phone can tell this story and then become contractors already with the resources that they have, because, at least in the south of Italy, they all have a piece of land." Stefano, 28 years old, a Calabrian comes from one of the areas with the highest unemployment rate in Europe. It is a simple but successful story: he holds onto a mill, near Catanzaro, that produces high quality organic grains.
Fabrizio, a Master’s from Boston and a Ph.D. gained in London, has founded a highly-specialized consulting company; its main collaborators are in Turin, where there is the only Master’s degree in Mathematics and Big Data.
Fabrizio Fantini (CEO of Evo Pricing): "Turin was chosen because it is a city where we find very good people, very willing, excellent talent, especially in the field of data analysis, which is a fully-fledged sector with explosive growth. Even right here we struggle to find IT specialists."
Different stories but with a common factor: the desire not to surrender.
A. Palmieri (Forza Italia / PDL): "We meet small, medium-sized companies, which are the wwworkers, who used and are using technologies or by reinventing old trades or creating new ones, and this is important to give kudos to these people who are trying to do businesses without waiting for the best times.”
The world of work evolves, we speak of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
L. Basso (Partito Democratico): "Many jobs unfortunately will be lost, it is necessary to be able to intercept the new jobs. However, to do this, it requires continuous training, a new training, a program that starts from schools and also comes to train those who are already in the work market with the risk that their professions may become obsolete. Strong incentives are needed for what is happening in the whole field of the new welfare."
Crisis and opportunity is the message of the meeting, two faces of the same coin.
Stefano Caccavari (Founder Mulinum srl): "The bet is to identify in every territory what is the excellence, start to communicate it well, and then designing a company around it."
